In Kyoto Knot we love trying japanese traditional methods in the house renewal. One of them is called Kakishibu, and it’s a dye made from natural fermented Persimmons.
The Kakishibu technique is used by japanese artists and craftsmen on wood, textiles and japanese paper (washi).
As it’s a natural tanning method using fermented produce, the smell is quite strong, so we had to use masks while painting.
Here you can see the difference between the untreated wood, one coat and two coats of dye.
